The residents in Austintown who live next to Route 11 have spoken, and they support the plan to build a noise wall.

Austintown Zoning Inspector Darren Crivelli tells 21 News that residents overwhelmingly supported the wall after he sent out a petition.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is offering to build the 4,385 foot long, 16-foot high noise wall between the west side of Route 11 and the South Inglewood Avenue neighborhood, south of Mahoning Avenue.

This wall is designed to create a five-decibel noise reduction.

Since the residents supported the plan, Crivelli said they submitted it to the state about three weeks ago. They're now just waiting to hear back.

Crivelli says ODOT has told him that the funding for the wall is available and there would be no cost to homeowners.

Once everything is in order, Crivelli estimates that it would be constructed between next year and 2021.

ODOT offers to build the walls near neighborhoods that existed before a highway was built near them.
