WINDSOR TWP., Ohio - An Amish child was flown by medical helicopter after being struck by a van as he was walking to school along State Route 534.

State Troopers say the 8-year-old victim was walking with two other children when one of them ran into the road near South Windsor Road at around 8:30 am Monday.

Troopers say the boy ran into the path of a Ford Econoline van and was hit.

At first, the boy wasn't moving, but witnesses say he started to breathe.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, was taken by ambulance to Geauga Airport then flown to Rainbow Children's Hospital in Cleveland. Troopers say he suffered "serious injury".

The van was still on the scene when the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived.

The investigation continues, however, troopers say speed, alcohol, and distracted driving are not factors in the crash.
