YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police arrested a suspect after he hurt himself trying to climb a fence to escape police. 

Police say that Richard Edwards was running from officers when he attempted to climb a fence which collapsed causing him to strike his face on a trailer suffering an injury to his face above his left eye. 

Youngstown police were called to the 500 block of Indianola Avenue because of a Domestic dispute. 

Edwards was at the home because he was there to help his ex-girlfriend. The victim stated that Edwards received a phone call from his wife who told him that the victim tried to get his wife fired from her job. 

Police say that after Edwards got off the phone, he picked the victim up by her neck and threw her onto the ground. The victim stated that Edwards was mad because he was under the assumption that she had tried to get his wife fired from her job. 

After Edwards allegedly assaulted the victim, she pressed her medical alert button to alarm the medical company who called her immediately. Upon receiving the phone call from the company, the victim whispered Edwards' name into the phone, and the company knew to call the police.  

The report states that the victim has an active protection order against Edwards due to previous incidents with him and his wife threatening to harm her.

According to the report, when police arrived, they saw Edwards fleeing the scene. 

Police say that Edwards failed to obey several commands and the officers started to chase Edward causing him to climb several fences.

According to authorities, while Edwards attempted to run away from police, he climbed a fence that collapsed beneath him which caused him to fall and injure himself. 

After Edwards was apprehended by police, he was transferred to Mercy Hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

According to the police report, Edwards was charged with domestic violence, obstructing official business and violating protection order or consent agreement against his ex-girlfriend.
