Summer is right around the corner and millions of Americans will enjoy the warm weather with a Memorial Day weekend vacation.

AAA says this Memorial Day could see the second-most people on the road this holiday.

INRIX. a global transportation analytics company and AAA predict that drivers will experience the greatest amount of congestion on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, in the late afternoon. The traffic will be a mix of people leaving work and holiday travelers.

According to the press release, INRIX expects travel delays on major roads could be more than three times longer than normal during evening commutes.

This holiday weekend will see the second-highest travel volume on record since AAA began tracking holiday travel volumes dating back to 2000.

According to the annual AAA Memorial Day travel forecast, nearly 43 million Americans will start their summers with a holiday weekend getaway.

Travel by automobile isn't the only increase that AAA expects to see.

Overall, an additional 1.5 million more people will take to the nation's roads, rails and runways compared with last year, a 3.6% increase nationwide.

Below are numbers that AAA put together to show the increase in travel in the East North Central region.
