Former Mercer County District Attorney disbarred
Former Mercer County District Attorney Miles Karson is no longer an attorney in Pennsylvania.

MERCER, Pa. - Former Mercer County District Attorney Miles Karson is no longer an attorney in Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Office of Disciplinary Council announced on Thursday that Karson had been disbarred after submitting an unconditional resignation from the practice of law in the state.
Karson, 73, was sentenced to four years probation and fined $10,000 in March after a jury convicted him of ten criminal charges.
The decision to impose no jail time was based on Karson's current health status and because of his prior military service.
A judge said Karson had appeared "remorseful" for his actions.
A jury returned guilty verdicts on six counts of obstructing the administration of law and four counts of official oppression.
The criminal complaint filed in October in Mercer County Magisterial Court alleged that Karson used his position as the D.A. to influence several investigations and/or charges against a woman, whom the complaint says Karson was in a romantic relationship.
Karson was also accused of attempting to intervene in a case in which the woman was accused of stealing more than $30,000 from a local business. In that instance, the complaint says that Karson told the victim of the theft to "be lenient" and to "feel sorry" for the woman.
In a separate allegation, the criminal complaint says that on two different occasions Karson arrived at the scene of car accidents involving the woman and sent her away before she could be tested for driving under the influence. The complaint says that on both occasions, she was suspected of being under the influence.
Some court testimony alleged that Karson convinced a high-ranking police officer not to write a report.
Karson submitted his resignation as district attorney following his conviction.
He had been an attorney since 1975.
