BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The sound of chainsaws echoed throughout Brookfield on Monday after the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in the township during Sunday's storms.

Homeowners along Wood Street and off of Route 7 spent the day cleaning up downed trees and debris in their yards.

"We pruned all the branches that were in the back yard up, put them in small plows so we can burn at a later date," Jeff Wiseman said.

Shingles came off of his roof, and two 80-year-old Maple trees came down in his front lawn, sparing his home. Those same trees nearly missing Brookfield Christian Church next door.

"I guess everything happens for a reason, whether it's luck or you know the man above watching out for me," Wiseman said.

Trumbull County EMA reports the tornado was packing 95 miles per hour winds when it brought down trees, taking out power lines.

Crews spent the day removing debris from Brookfield Township Cemetery where some gravestones were destroyed. The tornado then took aim at Yankee Run Golf Course.

"You could see the trees swirling and you could see debris lifting up," said Gary McMullin, owner of Yankee Run Golf Course.

McMullin was inside the clubhouse when the storm quickly swept through the course.

He estimates 400 trees toppled in the playing area of his course with possibly 1,000 more down in the surrounding wooded areas.

Volunteers are helping to cut down, cut up and remove the trees that got in the way of two charity golf outings for today and tomorrow. The Booster Club outing for athletics at Girard High School was forced to cancel on Monday.

McMullin hopes to reopen the golf course by Wednesday.
