HOWLAND, Ohio - Plans are underway to break ground on a new playground at Howland Community Park.

The township's popular Tiger Town playground was torn down last year over safety and age concerns.

Things are in motion for a new playground that will feature aviation and a drag strip theme, playing off of the township's history.

Construction on the first phase of the project was delayed because of rain, and some of the custom pieces weren't made yet.

The new plan is to break ground in mid to late July and to complete the first phase in early August.

Officials hope for the project to be complete next summer.

"The different pieces are all appropriate for different ages. It's an inclusive playground," said Jessica Gault of the Howland Park Board.

The township says they do not plan on seeking levies for these updates and say donations and sponsors are appreciated.
