Organizers of a fundraising effort scheduled for July are looking to raise enough money to buy a Boardman athlete a new racing chair.

Micah Beckwith, a junior at Boardman High School, has made two trips to Track and Field State Competition in Columbus in the seated division in 4 events and has earned All Ohioan status five times in the last two years.

Beckwith uses a wheeler (racer chair) for the 100, 400 and 800 that are rented for the season and returned in August.

Athletic Director Denise Gorski is now spearheading a group of supporters to raise funds to buy Beckwith his own personal racer chair so that he can have better opportunities to train.

"My husband and I have partnered with Carmella's restaurant and Mike Tomczak to help raise funds to buy Micah his own personal racer chair.  They range in price from $3,500-$4,500," said Gorski.

Tomczak is a former OSU quarterback, 14-year NFL quarterback, and is presently an assistant football coach at Youngstown State University.

The event is being held at Carmella's Cafe on Sunday, July 14, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tickets are $25.00 per person, and the event will include an assortment of food, a DJ, Chinese Auction and celebrity bartenders.
