The Girard bike trail could have some new land to expand soon.
According to Mayor Jim Melfi, the city has decided to use eminent domain to obtain the needed land from a railroad company.
The bike trail is set to run along the Mahoning River from Leatherworks to Lake-to-River trail.
Melfi said the city has attempted to negotiate with the company for years but hasn't been able to come to a deal.
Mayor Melfi said that city officials have decided to use eminent domain to seize the land because of the roadblocks that have occurred in the negotiations.
The eminent domain claim will be filed shortly.
