Work gets underway this week on a project that will impact more than 13,000 drivers who use one of the busiest highways in Warren and Howland.

The Ohio Department of Transportation on Monday will begin a $700,000 construction project along East Market Street.

Beginning Monday, July 29, 2019, East Market Street will have some lane restrictions between North Road and State Route 82.

Then on Thursday, August 1, 2019, the eastbound lane of East Market Street will be closed to Warren Sharon Road for an interchange reconfiguration project.

ODOT expects the closure to continue until September.

The recommended detour will be State Route 82 eastbound to State Route 46 northbound.

Businesses in Howland, like Up A Creek Tavern,  whose customers will have to follow the detour are anticipating at least some impact to their own foot traffic.

"It'll hurt a little bit, but in the end I think it will be all worth it. We're well established I don't think it'll be much of a problem," said Cassandra Shannon with Up a Creek Tavern.

The co -owner of the father-son business Greek Delights Cafe expressed a similar opinion.

"We're going on 50 years, so if they've been following us for 50 years they should keep following us, I'm hoping," said Kosta Fantidis.

The entire project is targeted for completion by late November.
