Boardman police have charged a 25-year-old township woman after her son shot himself in the hand while playing with a gun he found at their home.

Te'erai Gordon faces one count of child endangering filed in county court.

Gordon's eight-year-old son received stitches at Mercy Hospital after being shot in hand at his mother's apartment on the 4000 block of Shields Road at around 8 a.m. Monday.

Gordon told police that after being awakened by the sound of a gunshot, she found her son with a wounded hand and the 9 mm gun that she stores in a closet.

The boy told police he was watching television and got the gun from the living room closet. He said he was playing with it when the gun went off.

Gordon will appear in court to answer the charge.
