A school on a mission to help at-risk students in the Valley has designs on stepping up that effort.

A proposal to build two 200-bed dormitories for a college prep school behind the Mahoning County Hich School on Bryn Mawr Avenue in Youngstown was announced on Friday

Since it opened in 2008, the school has graduated more than 300 students from area schools.

Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Theresa Dellick joined other officials to unveil plans for the dormitories for children in grades seven through twelve.

Supporters call the college-prep curriculum and the dormitory as the next step in providing educational access to the most vulnerable at-risk students by providing a stable lifestyle and safety.

The model for high school emphasizes decision-making and problem-solving support.

The Obama White House Administration has recognized MCHS, the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Justice.
