A heavily traveled road in downtown Youngstown is undergoing some major construction.

Fifth Avenue is crowded with construction barrels starting at its intersection with West Federal Street.

Youngstown State kicks off its fall semester on Monday, and there are lane restrictions for students to keep in mind as they head to campus.

Officials say students need to pay attention while crews work to complete the patchwork in the road and finish getting utilities tied in.

Associate Vice President of University Facilities, John Hyden, said, "As they're walking and driving through the construction site, they're going to have to pay attention to what's going on. Put the cellphones away for a little while and pay attention to what the road crews are telling them."

Once the initial work is done, a total reconstruction can start.

That construction is expected to mimic the look of Wick and Lincoln avenues.
