Youngstown's Safety Committee plans to meet Thursday to discuss improving security at city hall.

Council members said they have had talks before about beefing up measures and it's time to revisit them.

Certain members of the safety committee said recent local and national events had raised concerns about security, but they have had discussions on the matter earlier in the year.

They said if there were some tragic situation or an intruder, they would be able to be more prepared and be proactive, not reactive.

Youngstown City Hall does have security guards during the day, according to council members.

Council does not yet know what precisely the security measures that would be put into place, but will learn more Thursday as they work with law enforcement.

The meeting is scheduled at 5 p.m. on the sixth floor of city hall and is open to the public.

The committee also plans to go over the amount of YPD service calls in the last few months and how many calls were responded to.
