A Columbus-area resident was surprised after they stumbled upon an injured and abandoned dog left on the side of the road with duct tape around its mouth and its throat cut.

The dog was found near the 5000 block of Trenton Franklin Road in Madison Township.

Police said that the dog's muzzle was duct-taped to its nose and mouth.

The dog was rushed to the vet's office where they found a chip that led police back to an animal rescue facility in Cincinnati.

Police are currently investigating the incident.
