Former Windam school superintendent pleads guilty to sex charges

RAVENNA, Ohio - An Austintown woman who is the former school superintendent of the Windham Schools has pleaded guilty to charges filed after she was accused of having sex with a student and attempting to have sex with another student.
Thirty-five-year-old Laura Amero appeared in Portage County Common Pleas Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to two felony counts of sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of sexual imposition.
Amero will be sentenced after authorities complete a sentencing report.
Amero was indicted by a Portage County Grand Jury for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old male in 2017. She was also accused of attempting to have sex with another male student between 2015 and 2017 while a principal in the Windham District.
Amero previously taught at Western Reserve and Campbell Schools.
The Windham Board of Education suspended Amero without pay in April. She later resigned.
