If you drive on the Pennsylvania turnpike, you will have to pay a higher price.

Starting Sunday, there will be a six percent toll increase for both E-ZPass and cash customers.

The most common toll for a passenger vehicle will increase from $1.40 to $1.50 for E-ZPass customers.

However, for those with cash, you will have to pay around $2.30 to $2.50.

For truck drivers, they will see an even bigger spike at the tolls, with E-ZPass customers paying about four dollars, while those with cash may have to pay a whopping $17.

The purpose of the rase is to re-invest in the toll roads.

"We are helping to fund transit in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, so in essence, the money that you're paying at the toll booths is going to improve not only the turnpike, but also it's going to help with our transit agencies and our largest urban areas, and also transit agencies in just about every county within the commonwealth of P.A.," said Pennsylvania Turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo.

The turnpike commission has been adding annual increases for about 12 years.

Officials recommend investing in the E-ZPass to save about 30 to 40 percent on tolls.
