GIRARD, Ohio -
For many students, playing sports is something they take for granted. But some kids are forced to sit on the sidelines because they can't afford extras like pay-to-play fees.
Five-year-old Maddox Collins from Girard loves sports so much that he wants everyone to be able to play.
It was around Christmas when his mom, who is a teacher, explained that some kids don't get to take part in sports because their parents are struggling to pay for food and clothing, and her son became concerned.

Maddox then watched a commercial featuring former baseball player Derek Jeter with a young girl selling bracelets for a charity.
Max had an idea that he could make bracelets too, as well as necklaces and key chains to sell and raise money for kids to play sports.
"He stopped playing with his toys, and he went to our basement. We have a wide selection of beads. He has a big sister, and he just started making them," his mom Carla Collins said.

Maddox says that he's making bracelets and giving money to boys and girls who can't afford to play sports, and the rest of the money is going to the food pantry.
"I want everyone to be able to play sports and to eat," he said.
The bracelets are mostly made with sports team colors in mind.
"Maddox has the biggest heart. When Max's parents contacted me, I thought it would be great to get the class involved. They were really excited; they were picking out their bracelets and stuff, and it snowballed from there, and the response has been great," Maddox's kindergarten teacher Therese Meechan added.

"T-ball costs around $65. Plus you have to buy shoes, pants and a glove. Some kids get a hat and helmet as well. So we are hoping with this money it will be used not only to pay a fee but also if they need shoes and pants and a glove," Collins said.
