Two area schools are closed Friday due to illnesses.

Southington Schools and the Youngstown Academy of Excellence are both closed.

Southington cited illnesses as the reason for their shutdown.

The Youngstown Academy of Excellence took to Facebook to announce its closure.

They say 47 percent of their students are reporting absent with strep throat and flu-like symptoms.

According to their Facebook page, their custodial team will clean and sanitize the school Friday.

The Youngstown Academy is asking parents to clean school items and to keep children home if they are sick.

The school will be open again Monday.
