Local restaurants coping after governor shuts down dine-in

WARREN, Ohio - The coronavirus has impacted businesses all over the world.
Here locally, our restaurants were in for a whirlwind after Governor Mike Dewine's announcement Sunday that restaurants could only offer take-out and carry-out only.
This led many local business owners to go back to the drawing board to find new ways to keep customers coming in the doors or curbside.
"Improvise, overcome, and adapt. Every time they throw you a curveball, you just have to lean into it and do the best you can," said Gabe Gouvas, the owner of West & Main Bar and Grill in Warren.
The business now has delivery, and Modern Methods, also in Warren, is offering online ordering and curbside pickup.
Although the governor's orders are necessary to save lives, a lot of people in the restaurant industry are concerned about their livelihood.
"With St. Paddy's Day itself, all the businesses took a huge loss. These employees, the front of the house, the back of the house, they live off tips," said Gouvas.
However, people have hugely lightened the load, giving bigger tips, and going out of their way to give a little love back.
"We're not sure where we're headed next, and it makes it really difficult to plan a business around that," said Adam Keck, owner of Modern Methods. "Our government really needs to step to say, here are some resources to get us through it, and local community response has been humbling and exciting, but without some government response to really address our needs, we're all really worried."
