Canfield Memorial Day observance scaled back due to coronavirus

CANFIELD, Ohio - Precautions in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus are bringing changes to another Memorial Day observance in the Valley.
Leaders of American Legion Post 177 in Canfield have announced they are scaling back this year’s traditional Memorial Day Services due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
Past services included a gathering of 250 or more people at the Gazebo on the Village Green with a guest speaker, performances by the Canfield High School Cardinal Pride Marching Band, a march to the Canfield East Cemetery, where the Post Rifle Squad would fire shots over the graves of veterans.
The entourage would then go to the War Vets Museum to recognize new names posted to the “Wall of Honor.”
As a result of restrictions on crowd size and social distancing, the Post will conduct a limited service at the Canfield East Cemetery open to Post members only.
The following names will be posted on the Wall of Honor:
David S. Baker, WWII
Christopher Mazgaj, Sr., Vietnam
Thomas L. Phillips, WWII
Thomas Phillips, Vietnam
Victor Richley, Korean War
Kenneth Snyder, WWII
Post 177 will record the services and post to social media.
