ACTION, MYCAP create team to deliver groceries to seniors

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - ACTION and MYCAP have partnered together to create a team of people to deliver groceries to seniors.
According to the release, senior citizens are some of the most vulnerable to COVID-19 and are not able to get out to stores to shop and can fall prey to "friendly shoppers" who can overuse their EBT cards and under deliver food.
MYCAP (Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership) director Sheila Triplett said concerns from the 600 seniors that the organization serves caused her to plan the partnership with ACTION to create "delivery angels" to help these seniors.
The group says they will work with local grocery stores to ensure a list of approved shoppers for the program.
The free delivery service is scheduled to begin May 12 and case workers will help with coordinating the delivery process. ACTION is providing the shoppers for the program and will provide the seniors with no contact delivery at no charge to them.
The services will be provided twice a month.
"We are excited about the possibility to assist with this project. We're all in this together and it's painful to consider that people are exploited during this time of crisis" said ACTION Executive Director Rosetta Carter.
