As more businesses open in Ohio today, the state reported a relatively low number Tuesday of new Coronavirus cases falling well below the 21-day average of reported cases in the state.

Now begins the crucial period in case monitoring since the reopening period has started with COVID-19 being infectious in carriers for anywhere between two to three weeks.

The Ohio Department of Health's latest Tuesday update puts confirmed cases now at 30,827 cases in Ohio, an increase of 322 from Monday.

That number increases to 33,006 when using the CDC total case definition which includes quick test data and individuals showing symptoms who are known to have contact with individuals with COVID-19.

Total CDC expanded definition death totals have now surpassed 2,000.

Although deaths are less of an indicator of success in reopening, new deaths reported daily are also trending downward with 25 new deaths reported on Tuesday bringing the confirmed totals to 1,803.

Looking at the 21-day case average, new cases have still remained largely flat, with an average of 573 cases reported per day.

Daily hospitalizations are holding around 77 new hospitalizations per day in the state.

The age range for infections of the virus also slightly changed now ranging from infants to age 109.

In Mahoning County, there are six new reported cases with totals reaching 1,347 cases, and two new deaths with totals at 171 deaths.

In Trumbull County, there are 11 new reported deaths with totals reaching 540 cases, and three new deaths with totals at 45 deaths.

In Columbiana County, there are 53 new reported cases with totals reaching 657 cases, and no new deaths with totals still at 50 deaths.

Health officials in Columbiana County say the surge in numbers of COVID-19 are due to continued testing at the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution.

Reports say 310 of the 657 total cases in the county are inmates of the prison.

Seventy-one of the cases in the county are also residents of long-term care facilities.
