Girard man accused of pointing gun at neighbor over defecating dog

Police arrested a Girard man allegedly pointing a gun loaded with hollow-point bullets at his neighbor after a dog defecated on his lawn.
Alfred Whitt Jr., 61, is free on a $5,000 bond after being booked into the Trumbull County Jail on a charge of felonious assault.
Whitt was arrested by Girard Police on Friday at his Washington Ave. home after his next-door neighbor claimed that Whitt pointed a gun at him and his dog after the dog defecated on Whitt’s lawn.
According to a police report, Whitt told officers that it has been an ongoing problem, admitting he intended to shoot the dog, but denying that he pointed the gun at his neighbor.
Police say the neighbor’s story was corroborated by his roommate.
Under a couch in Whitt’s home, officers found a semi-automatic handgun loaded with 13 hollow point bullets.
Hollowpoint bullets expand upon impact with their target.
The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for July 1.
