The dog days of summer aren't quite here yet but the next few days will prove otherwise.

A dry and hot stretch of days in the low 90s is on the way for the Valley and with the holiday weekend coming up, fireworks will pose a significantly higher fire threat.

"People don't know what's going to happen to those devices when they go up in the air, they don't know where they're going to come down. There are all sorts of stories where they landed on bushes on vehicles wherever that then there are subsequent fires by the fireworks ignition," says David Comstock an attorney and Fire Chief with the Western Reserve Joint Fire District.

Fireworks are legal to buy but illegal to shoot off in Ohio.

If you choose to shoot off fireworks during the holiday weekend.

Comstock suggests shooting them off in a wide-open space or over water, away and clear from brush or neighboring houses.

By the time the fireworks land on a neighboring property a hose or fire extinguisher may not be able to help.

"People don't know where they're coming down, they don't see them land in the neighbor's bushes, they land on the neighbor's roof and by the time you realize that they're burning the leaves in the gutters they didn't clean out and the roof is on fire I don't know if the bucket of water or the fire extinguisher or the hose for that matter will do much good," adds Comstock.
