Koala fans visit new arrival at Cleveland Zoo

CLEVELAND, Ohio - While the National Zoo in Washington has its baby panda, the Cleveland Metroparks has its own attraction drawing crowds of people.
For the first time in nearly ten years, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a baby koala, also known as a joey.
This is also the first joey for mom, Mackenzie, and dad, Nyoonbi.
Joeys stay in their mom’s pouch for about six months, so keepers have been keeping a close eye on Mackenzie and first noted possible pouch movements in May.
Last week the joey officially left the pouch and climbed onto mom’s lap.
Guests can visit mom and joey at Gumleaf Hideout in Australian Adventure on even-numbered calendar dates between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. While capacity is limited for social distancing, reservations for general admission are no longer required.
