Mom charged after six kids found alone in Warren home

WARREN, Ohio - A Warren woman is charged with child endangering after police say they found her six children home alone with no access to a telephone.
Police were called to a home on Desota Ave. NW Thursday evening where they found children looking out of the window.
A 12-year-old girl who answered the door told the officer that she was in charge while her mother was out for a hair appointment and to buy food.
There were five other children at the home ranging in age from one to six. Two of the children on the couch were nude.
The 12-year-old said that she didn’t know her mother’s cell phone and didn’t have access to a telephone.
While waiting for Children Services to arrive, the mother came home and told the officer that she came home after her hair appointment, but left again to pick up her niece.
She admitted that she left the children without a phone and explained that two of the children were nude because they sometimes take off their diapers.
The children were turned over to a relative.
The mother, 37-year-old Amber Currie, pleaded not guilty in Warren Municipal Court to a charge of child endangering.
The judge ordered that Currie may not have unsupervised contact with her children unless approved by Children Services.
Another court hearing is set for late October.
