A Warren woman is free on bond after pleading not guilty to a charge of child endangering after police say she left her three-year-old daughter alone in a running car outside of a store.

After being tipped off that a child was by herself inside a car outside the Mahoning Avenue Giant Eagle in Warren, officers say they saw 29-year-old Meshia Spencer walk up to the car in the parking lot.

Seeing the little girl in the back seat, one of the officers said they told Spencer that she couldn’t leave a child in a running car because she could be kidnapped.

According to the police report, Spencer was handcuffed after continuing to argue with the officers.

A representative from Trumbull County Children’s Services arrived to help arrange for someone to care for the daughter while her mother was being taken to jail.

During an arraignment in Warren Municipal Court on Wednesday, Spencer’s bond was set for $2,500.

She is scheduled to appear in court again on October 27.

In the meantime, a judge has ordered that Spencer have no contact with children unless approved by Children’s Services.
