Ohio Sec. of State Larose talks 2020 election in Ohio

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose was recently part of a 21 News Podcast just as early voting in Ohio gets underway where he talked about ballot boxes, his take on voter security and the strong turnout for early voting and absentee requests.
On the first day of early voting and with just four weeks until Election Day, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced 2,154,235 absentee ballot applications have been received by county boards of elections statewide.
This includes 21,570 requests from military and overseas voters whose absentee ballots began to be mailed September 18th.
"We are not surprised by this. We know that Ohioans are eager to make their voice heard and they know this is an accurate and safe way to vote," said LaRose
Other absentee ballots will be mailed beginning October 6th. Over the past week, 158,839 new absentee ballot requests were submitted by Ohio voters. Totals from early in-person voting will be included in next week's release.
At the same time during the 2016 election, 1,091,188 absentee ballots had been requested.
"A record number of Ohioans have requested an absentee ballot and soon they will see that ballot arrive in their mailbox," said LaRose. "The clock has started, so don't wait to return it. Make sure your voice is heard."
One thing LaRose also stressed is that due to the higher number of people voting absentee this year the final vote count on election night is not the final result number that voters will see on election night.
"It's an unofficial number. In Ohio ewe can receive ballots 10 days after election day to be counted as long as they are postmarked on election day."
