YSU classes to be monitored by department chairperson in event deal isn't reached

According to an email sent out to the Youngstown State University faculty Tuesday afternoon, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14, all department chairpersons will be monitoring courses by departments at the university in the event that the faculty and administration fail to reach an agreement to end the strike.
The email was sent to all faculty from Brien Smith, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at YSU.
The note added that the university "will continue to provide instruction" without faculty members in the event a deal isn't reached by Wednesday.
The email also noted that faculty access to their YSU email account and to Blackboard online app will continue, so that faculty are able to monitor student's progress. The email added that faculty members "elect to continue teaching" must inform the Human Resources office by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The YSU-OEA's strike began Monday morning over a contract dispute, union officials and the university have continued to negotiate terms for a new three-year contract.
Negotiations resumed Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Union sources said negotiations will continue each day until a deal is reached.
