Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning Co. branches to get air-cleaning systems

All Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County branches will be getting air filtration systems to improve air quality amid the pandemic.
The library board of trustees approved the emergency purchase of the air filtration systems Wednesday with the rise of COVID-19 cases. The estimated cost is $92,000.
The purchase qualifies for funds under the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. Mahoning County public libraries received $375,000 in CARES Act funds, which are aimed at helping libraries operate safely during the pandemic.
The filtration system is called Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization. The devices produce positive and negative ions that neutralize viruses, allergens and other harmful airborne particles. They can be added to existing heating and air conditioning systems without any big changes.
