MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - There's a new judge in Mahoning County, and he is a familiar face.

Former State Senator Joe Schiavoni won the votes for Mahoning County Court Judge, 58 percent to 42 percent against incumbent J.P. Morgan.

"Being a judge is about being compassionate but also being tough when you have to be," said Schiavoni. "For me, I've always been by the book and straight forward. I'm just honored that, you know, the people have decided to elect me to be a judge. I appreciate all the support I had when I was running for Senate the last ten years, and this Valley's my home and I love the people here, so I'll always treat the people here with the respect they deserve."

Schiavoni ran for Ohio governor back in 2018, but did not get enough votes throughout the state and conceded to Richard Cordray, who later went on to lose the race against now-Governor Mike DeWine.

He represented Mahoning and Columbiana Counties in the Ohio Senate from 2009-2018.
