The Mooney boys soccer team's incredible season reached it's conclusion in the Division III State Championship game.

The Cardinals fell to Cincinnati Mariemont 4-1.

Mooney's defense which hadn't let up a single goal since October 17th, and recorded seven clean sheets since then, saw the Warriors find the back of the net before half.

The difference, the second half...

52:26 into the second half, Luke Brothers added to Mariemont's lead, and 40 seconds later scored again.   The result was a 3-0 Warriors lead with 26 minutes to play.

Three minutes later Mariemont's Henry Buck put another tally in the score column, capping off a streak of three goals in four minutes.

The Cardinals refused to go down without a fight...Justin Durkin prevented a shutout with a goal in the 77th minute.

However, it was Mariemont celebrating at MAPFRE Stadium.

At just 30 years old, head coach Matthew Britton couldn't be more proud of his team

"I can't say enough about this group, the six seniors, I mean this is a group that starts six underclassmen.  Not many groups make it this far starting six underclassmen, just to make it this far I'm extremely proud of them."

The Cardinals finish the year 16-2-5, accomplishing what no team in the program had done since 2005...appearing in the state finale.
