YOUNGSTOWN - Despite officers' efforts to save the life of a gunshot victim, detectives in Youngstown are now investigating a homicide.

According to police, officers rushed to the area of South Avenue and Lucius Avenue just before 2 a.m. Thursday, when they were alerted to the sound of gunfire by the police department’s “Shotspotter” system.

Officers say they arrived two minutes later and found a man believed to be in his 30s lying in the middle of the road. 

Police administered first aid. However, the victim died.

The Mahoning County Coroner's Office has not yet released the name of the victim.

No suspects have been arrested.
