Despite stay-at-home advisories in both Mahoning and Trumbull County along with a spike in coronavirus cases, retail in the Mahoning Valley said they're still expecting some Black Friday customers.

Eastwood Mall and Southern Park Mall are expected to open at 6 a.m. on Friday.

"We want to do our best to accommodate the folks in a way that is both healthy and comfortable," Joe Bell, Eastwood Mall spokesman, said.

However, retailers said sales will not be anything like traditional Black Friday deals and encourage customers to take advantage of online and curbside shopping.

"They'll be rolling out sales and specials throughout the holiday season," Bell said.

Eastwood Mall said they are not lowering the number of people allowed in the mall, but said security will be watching the mall to make sure there is no overcrowding and masks are worn. He also said some individual stores in the mall will be watching for overcrowding.

A handful of local boutiques said they will also remain open on Black Friday with a limit of people in stores.

"I have staggered things planned that are going to be mailed out to bring customers in different groups so it's not all at once," La Ti Da Poland Boutique owner Shelley Genova, said, "If you are nervous about shopping, you don't have to come into the store. You can do a FaceTime phone call, you can buy off video on Facebook, comment to purchase, and we do touchless curbside pick up."

Owner of Grey Boutique in Canfield, Amy Ambruzere, said they're providing similar options to shop online or over-the-phone and asks the community to support businesses in the safest way they can.

"To support local means something this year more so than any other year," Ambruzere said.

Retailers ask anyone with symptoms or anyone who has been around someone who contracted COVID-19 to please stay home.
