YOUNGSTOWN - The Mahoning County District Society of Saint Vincent de Paul teamed up with Broadway Recovery Services and gave out hot meals to those in need this Christmas in downtown Youngstown.

Volunteers spent hours cooking 300 Christmas dinners for anyone in Mahoning County who needs it and gave them out at the Saint Vincent de Paul dining hall.

Men of the Broadway Recovery Services said they know what it's like to struggle and wanted to lend a helping hand.

"We used to be there, all of us," said volunteer Darren Tate. "We've been homeless, we've been there and I feel like it's a blessing to give back because it can be us on the other side of the door."

For anyone who couldn't make it to the dining hall this white Christmas, volunteers brought the food to them in a van on Federal Street, standing in the snow for hours for anyone who needs a meal.

"It's already hard times," Jessica Anthony, Mahoning County District Saint de Paul Director said. "We don't want anybody going without, so due to the snowstorm, we actually decided to take the van out to get to people who can't come to us today."
