WARREN, Ohio - The Trumbull County Coroner has reported that there is no indication of foul play in the deaths of a Warren woman and her 5-year-old son whose bodies were recovered from the ruins of their fire-gutted home on New Year’s morning.

Coroner Dr. Lawrence D’Amico said that autopsies performed on 34-year-old Cassandra Gray and her son, Otto determined that both succumbed to smoke inhalation.

The fire spread through the family’s home on Woodland St. NE at around 3 a.m. Friday.  Gray’s husband and an older son escaped with minor injuries.

More information about how the two died and the cause of the fire is expected when the Ohio Fire Marshall’s office completes an investigation.

Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle tells 21 News he spoke with the Fire Marshall on Tuesday and learned that the investigator wants to review video from one of the home's surveillance cameras before ruling on the cause of the fire. The fire chief could not provide information from 9-1-1 callers who reported hearing explosions when the fire erupted.

Nussle said the bodies of the mother and son were found near one another in an upstairs bedroom.
