Like many other people, you may have experienced unusually late mail deliveries and as a result, had some overdue bills to deal with.

With overdue bills come penalties.

Mary Johnson of Canfield said, "i'm looking at late fees and a stop on a check because the one credit card never got my check. It's very frustrating and I’m a person that's a little OCD I guess because iIlike to have my bills paid on time and I don't wanna ruin my credit score."

If you're looking to avoid late fees there are ways to stop companies from penalizing you if it was due to a mail delay.

Regional Operations Manager at Apprisen, Victor Russell, said "If you explain the situation to them thoroughly, let them know exactly what the situation is ‘I didn't get it on time,’ they'll probably waive that late fee, ask them to do that. But you have to contact the creditor directly in order to rectify the situation.

21 News reached out to the Cleveland Post Office for more information on when they will catch up on mail delays and they declined to talk on camera.

However, the office did send a statement explaining that they continue to face challenges.

The office says they've assigned extra transportation to deliver mail faster, as well as expanding processing procedures.
