The so-called "Twindemic" had a lot of people worried but so far it hasn't materialized.

In the middle of flu season and so far, the numbers of cases are dramatically low.

Flu activity across the valley mimics that across the country where people have gotten used to protect themselves against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Experts like infectious disease expert Dr. Dee Banks says they aren't totally surprised.

"EVERYTHING IS A FLUID SITUATION RIGHT NOW BUT AT LEAST FOR NOW HOPEFULLY WE'VE, BY WEARING OUR MASKS, WASHING HANDS AND SOCIALLY DISTANCING, WE'VE PREVENTED OURSELVES FROM HAVING A TWINDEMIC WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE"

Banks says experts had been following the flu in the Southern hemisphere because the seasons are opposite ours and it showed lower flu activity.

Influenza is caused by a virus different than the one that causes COVID-19, which affects the lungs and can lead to pneumonia or death.

The flu usually peaks between December and February.
