Police charge Warren man with inducing panic after Liberty manhunt

LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - The Liberty Township Police Department updated the information from the Sunday, Feb. 7 morning single-car crash that led to Trumbull County police and state troopers searching for a suspect in Liberty Township.
According to the Liberty Twp. Police Department report, at approximately 9:34 a.m., the township officers were dispatched to Pleasant Valley Road, where a suspect fled who had fled from Girard Police had crashed his car on Pleasant Valley Road near Tibbetts Wick.
The police found the crashed car, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, to 1710 Pleasant Valley Rd. in Liberty Township.
According to the report, 23-year old Damien James Charles Binion smashed out the window of the vehicle, which police said belonged to his ex-girlfriend, then made threats to shoot the police officers. Officers were advised that Binion was seen heading northwest from the scene.
The suspect fled on foot to a home on Anderson Morris Road near Route 11, which was blocked off while police worked to take him into custody.
Police were able to make communication with Binion, had barricaded himself into a home of a woman whom he knows on Anderson Morris Road and armed himself inside the home with a knife in the basement.
Binion eventually surrendered and the police were able to take him into custody.
He was taken to Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Medical Center after he told police he had broken his leg in the initial car crash.
Binion was charged with inducing panic, obstructing official business and is set to appear in Girard Municipal Court at a later date.
