What to do if you need a rapid COVID-19 test ASAP

Some people who were waiting on COVID-19 tests have had to deal with delays due to the massive snowstorm across the country.
Three medical testing providers said they have experienced problems with receiving packages, or labs receiving COVID-19 tests they shipped by FedEx. They say problems began after the snowstorm swept across the country.
Lena Esmail tells us Quick Med uses local labs -- except for one in Medina that sent its COVID-19 tests overnight by FedEx.
"In fact, there were packages we had sent from our Medina location on the 13, 12 and 17 that we just received yesterday," Esmail said.
She tells us Quick Med wasn't willing to wait for FedEx to find the packages. After 24 hours, they called people back to be retested.
"What we ended up doing is calling the patients back in, having them re-swab the next day, then we couriered the samples from Medina to Liberty through a private contractor," Esmail said.
She explained how they had supplies picked up in Houston, Texas and had them brought back on a private plane so they could continue to serve people in our region after they found out no one was shipping from that region.
On-Demand testing in Austintown said FedEx is back on track this week after delayed deliveries of drug and COVID tests to labs for processing.
910 Rapid Care in Boardman began calling 45 people Tuesday about options for retesting. 21 News received a complaint from a person who said they were still waiting ten days after they were tested.
The office manager explained the tests were never delivered to a lab in New Jersey, that other providers were having similar problems and that they have been calling every day to try and track down what happened to the tests they shipped by FedEx.
A representative from FedEx who deals with media said they are unaware of problems in our region, but they will assist in tracking the packages if we provided the tracking numbers. 21 News provided those numbers around 5 p.m., and we hope to hear what they have been able to find out in the morning.
Because many people need COVID results for travel, to return to work or school or to isolate themselves from others, we asked what people can do if they need a test with a quick turnaround time.
Esmail emphasized it's a good idea to shop around and ask some important questions such as what is the turnaround time for the tests, and do you have a local lab that's doing the testing? If the lab is out of town, are you having any shipping delays?
She said that if you need a test for a flight or travel, you will be out of luck unless you ask questions and get answers.
