A two-alarm house fire engulfed two houses Wednesday afternoon in Freedonia.

The fire started at a home on Water Street around 4 p.m.

When crews arrived one house was totally involved while the second house also began to catch fire.

All those inside the home made it out safely, and fire crews had to go inside one of the homes and rescue three dogs.

The cause of the fires is still under investigation, but officials say reports of open trash burning caught one home on fire and flames jumped to the neighboring home starting the second blaze.

The home that initially started the fire was completely destroyed.

Most of the damage to the second home that caught fire was contained to the rear of the home.
