Austintown senior starting pitcher and Penn State commit Lydia Spalding broke in Fitch's brand new softball complex in historic fashion, with a perfect-game shutout.

Spalding pitched wire to wire, throwing to catcher McKenna Hogan without giving up a single hit, walk or run, while striking out 11 batters along the way.

The Falcons defeated LaBrae 15-0 in the team's first game on their brand new all-turf field Saturday afternoon. Spalding helped her own cause by going 3-3 at the plate with two singles, a triple, and one RBI.

Sixth-year head softball coach Steven Ward says Spalding has certainly put in the time on the diamond to get to this point.

"Couldn't have happened to a more hard-working person," he said following the game. "Really proud of the defense that had her back."
