NEW CASTLE, Pa. - Rescue crews in New Castle spent the afternoon fishing a vehicle out of the Neshannock River.

Officials said the incident happened overnight Friday around 3:30 a.m.

A driver was traveling on the Columbus Innerbelt, lost control and slammed through a chain link fence, according to fire crews.

The vehicle then toppled 24 feet into the river and landed on its roof.

21 News was told the driver called 9-1-1 to tell dispatchers what happened and that his car was filling up with water.

Officials said he was able to get out of the vehicle and police helped him onto land.

One New Castle officer was told by the driver that someone was allegedly shooting at him and that's why he lost control.

Police said that information has not yet been confirmed.

A large crane was brought to the river and after water rescue personnel waded out to the vehicle and connected a cable to it, it was lifted up the
24 foot wall to the roadway above.

The driver suffered minor injuries.
