Man facing multiple charges after Trumbull County chase

VIENNA TWP., Ohio - A man is facing a laundry list of charges after a half-hour chase that involved multiple agencies.
The chase started in Vienna on April 1 along Youngstown Kingsville Road near Yankee Kitchen. It ended in a yard just north of the Cortland Police Department.
Vienna Police Chief Bob Ludt confirmed David Evans, 40, is the man accused of leading the chase.
According to Ludt, officers pulled Evans over for a minor traffic stop. The officers found Evans did not have a driver's license and had three outstanding warrants. Evans later took off when the officers approached the vehicle he was in, Ludt said.
Initial reports from the chase indicated officials set up spike strips as speeds reached almost 60 miles per hour. Ludt says they didn't want to call off the pursuit since Evans was going the wrong way on roadways like Route 82 and 11.
Once the chase reached Cortland, the Ohio State Highway Patrol took over. Ludt says Evans sideswiped a trooper's vehicle as they tried to get him to stop. A trooper eventually did a pit maneuver and knocked Evans off the road into a yard. Officials were able to take him into custody without incident.
Ludt says they found suspicious items in the vehicle Evans was driving like a catalytic converter, which had fresh cuts on it.
No officers were hurt during the chase, according to Ludt.
After the chase, Evans was booked on charges of obstructing official business, receiving stolen property, falsification, possessing criminal tools and failure to comply-operate a motor vehicle to flee.
He was also booked on a previous charge in 2020 for theft. He was also booked on charges dating back to 2019 including possession of drugs, driving while under the influence, failure to control on a public highway and driving under financial responsibility law suspension or cancellation.
