WARREN, Ohio - People living in a Warren neighborhood have more access to healthy food thanks to a state grant.

The Lucky 7 market at 1265 E. Market Street has installed a refrigeration unit to expand the store’s offerings of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The refrigerated storage was purchased with a $25,000 Healthy Food for Ohio Grant awarded by the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.

The program is for community stores within Warren that are a part of the Healthy Community Store Initiative to help increase healthy food access.

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Access Research Atlas lists Warren's Southeast and Southwest neighborhoods as "food deserts", meaning that a majority of the residents live more than one mile from a grocery store with a full variety of fresh and nutritious meat, dairy, and produce.
