Over 70k awarded to Newton Falls for canoe launch ramp and more

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - More than $70,000 is being awarded to Newton Falls for a canoe launch ramp and more through what's called the Paddling Enhancement Grant.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the goal of the grant is to increase access and opportunities for activities like kayaking and canoeing.
Newton Falls is getting $73,920 for an ADA-compliant canoe/kayak launch ramp as well as driveway and parking lot improvements at the Commerce Park Launch Site along the Mahoning River Water Trail.
"Paddle sports continue to drive the sky-high participation in water recreation," said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. "We're proud to support our local economies and provide Ohioans with quality opportunities for recreation on the water. Just remember to wear a life jacket."
The Paddling Enhancement grants are funded by Ohio's recreational boaters through the Waterways Safety Fund, which is comprised of a share of the state motor fuel tax, watercraft registration and titling fees as well as funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
