GIRARD, Ohio - One of the longest-running field days in the state of Ohio takes place right in the Valley.

Friday, Girard intermediate school held their 75th Field Day where students compete against one another in several competitions.

Principal, Julianne Ware, says this year's event means a lot because last year was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY AS A SCHOOL AS SPORTSMEN TO BE ABLE TO COMPETE BUT ALSO TO CELEBRATE THE YEAR THAT WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH."

Every student in grades four through six was able to compete in at least one event.

Some students who were learning from home were also able to attend the event.

Special recognition went out to field day announcer Coach Greg May who has been involved with the event for the past 50 years.
