TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - The Trumbull Democratic Party met for a Unity Spring Breakfast without masks after a year of zoom meetings.

Chairman Dan Polivka believes the reason why a few elections were lost or nail-biting close in 2020 after decades of a blue wave, was due to supporters of former President Donald Trump.

"I think it was an anomaly. I think there were some real strong Trump supporters and they voted straight ticket, and they didn't look at the accomplishments of some of the locals and the great job we were doing with TJX, LG Chem, a lot of things going on in our county," said Polivka.

"We're here for the little guy, where here for Main street," said former State Senator and attorney Sean O'Brien.

O'Brien emphasized, the local democratic party has not left anyone and adds he and others worked across party lines to benefit folks in our valley, region, state, and country.

Sean O'Brien added, "We stand for job creation, we stand for strong public education, we stand for strong health care, we stand for voting rights, these things are essential to democracy for society. That is what we've been fighting for and we will continue to fight for."

Congressman Tim Ryan who is running for a seat in the US Senate tells us his priorities would be to continue his focus on rebuilding a strong middle class in the Voltage Valley, Ohio, and our country.

Ryan said, "We are at a crossroads. We have to make sure we are investing in industries of the future, the infrastructure bill that is going to help with broadband, water, sewer so that we can expand what we're doing in Lordstown. For example, the Voltage Valley is taking hold, at TJX thousands of jobs are coming to our community, but we've got to double down because our plants used to have 15,000 people in them so we've got a long way to go. I think the Senate is going to be where we make those policy decisions where areas like ours can really make a strong come back and rebuild the middle class."

"We need to keep the party focused on Ohio and not on the coasts, I've tried to do that my entire career, focusing on workers, pensions, health care, our kid's schools, and jobs of the future, so that actually workers can be cut in on the deal and make a good solid middle-class living," said Congressman Ryan.

Ryan went on to add, wages, health care, pensions, lower prescription drug costs, those decisions are going to be made in the Senate.
