Groundbreaking held for Stambaugh Auditorium staircase restoration

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A new project broke ground at Stambaugh Auditorium Monday morning.
The ceremony marked the start of the $4.1 million project to repair the nearly 100-year-old Fifth Avenue staircase.
Stambaugh Auditorium has raised about $3.2 million from different Valley organizations so far.
The repairs are said to ensure the future of the historic landmark for years to come.
"These steps are almost 100-years-old. The building was actually built in 1926 so we're approaching the 100th anniversary. The steps are in a significant state of disrepair from the weathering, salt, and all the snow over the years. They are getting to the point where they're not safe," said Joann Stock, Chief Development Officer for Stambaugh Auditorium.
Construction on the project is estimated to wrap up by November.
